Professional Baby Ear Piercing Service With Medical-Grade Equipment
At Xtremities, we provide professional baby ear piercing with medical-grade tools and single-use needles. And we have a special piercer who knows how to work calmly with infants.
We never use piercing guns on babies. A piercing gun forces a blunt stud through the ear, which can crush the tissue and can cause bruising, slow healing, and hard lumps under the skin.
We use a small, single-use, hollow needle to create a clean opening through the lobe. Every needle comes out of a sealed sterile pouch right in front of you and is disposed of immediately after the piercing. The whole process takes seconds. The clean needle pierce means less swelling and faster healing for your baby.

We Provide a Safe and Sterile Piercing Space
Xtremities maintains a sterile piercing space. Our studio has never failed a single health inspection in over two decades. That track record is possible because of the strict daily protocols we follow.
Every workstation is wiped down with hospital-grade disinfectant between clients, and the solution is left to sit for the full dwell time before being wiped away. Surfaces are wrapped in disposable barriers, and gloves are changed before any sterile tool is handled.
We run spore tests on our autoclave in-house every day. Reusable tools go through ultrasonic cleaning, are sealed in dated sterilization pouches, and are run through our medical-grade autoclave.
When you bring your baby in, you're walking into a clean and sterile space.

What to Expect During Your Baby's Piercing Appointment
We've shaped the process around what matters for an infant. Calm pace, parent involvement, and as little waiting as possible. Here's how each appointment runs.
Welcome and Consultation
You'll meet your piercer and have a chance to ask any questions before anything starts. We'll explain what we're doing and what to expect, then look at your baby's ears to plan placement and ensure both lobes are pierced evenly.
Choosing the Jewellery
Together, we pick the studs that work best for your baby's skin and your style. Surgical steel and 14k gold are both safe for sensitive skin. We'll help you choose between simple balls, gems, or small designs in approved sizes.
Setting Up the Sterile Tools
Your piercer opens sealed needle packets right in front of you. Then they set out the autoclaved tools and put on new gloves. You'll see every step of the prep, so you know exactly what's touching your baby.
Marking the Placement
Using a surgical skin marker, your piercer places small dots on both lobes to show exactly where each piercing will go. You check the marks in a mirror and confirm them before any needlework begins. If the placement isn't right, we re-mark.
The Piercing
You can hold your baby in your lap while we work. Each piercing takes about a second. Our piercer will work calmly and fast so as not to upset your baby.
Aftercare Instructions
Before you leave, we give you detailed aftercare instructions. We will also teach you the cleaning routine. You'll also have our phone number and an open door to come back anytime if you have questions.

We Provide Hypoallergenic Jewellery for Your Baby's Ears
Our walk-in ear piercing studio will provide hypoallergenic earrings for your baby's ears. Baby skin is thin, sensitive, and far more reactive than adult skin. Therefore, we avoid cheap metals like nickel, which is a common cause of jewellery-related skin reactions. We don't put anything questionable near your baby's ear.
Our standard initial studs are made from 316L surgical stainless steel or 14k gold. Both are biocompatible, hypoallergenic, and considered safe for long-term skin contact. The backs are secure but smooth, with no sharp edges that could catch on clothing or bedding.
Once the piercings have fully healed, your baby can wear a wider range of jewellery. But for the first six to eight weeks, the initial studs stay in.
How Long Does It Take for a Baby's New Piercing to Heal?
A baby's earlobe piercing typically heals on the surface in about six to eight weeks. Babies heal a bit faster than adults thanks to their active immune systems, but the inner tissue takes a few more weeks to settle completely.
During the healing window, the initial studs need to stay in place. Removing them too early can let the holes close or shift. After six to eight weeks of clean, uncomplicated healing, the original studs can be swapped out for new earrings in safe materials.
If anything looks unusual during healing, such as heavy swelling, yellow or green discharge, or persistent pain, bring your baby in or call us.

Baby Piercing Aftercare Tips
Baby aftercare is simple, but it needs to be done consistently. Here's what works:
Clean Twice Daily: Use a sterile saline solution or saline spray on the front and back of each piercing, morning and evening. Pat dry with a clean piece of gauze.
Don't Touch or Twist: Old advice said to rotate the earrings. New advice is the opposite. Leave them alone and touch them only with freshly washed hands if absolutely necessary.
Watch What Goes Near the Ears: Avoid lotions, baby oil, sunscreen, and shampoo near the piercings. Tilt your baby's head when washing their hair, and rinse carefully to keep soap away from the lobes.
Sleep Carefully: Try not to let your baby sleep with their face pressed against the piercing. A pillow or mattress may pull on the studs.
Watch for Warning Signs: Redness, warmth, thick yellow discharge, or fever can signal an infection. Call us right away if you see any of these, and contact your pediatrician if any of them escalate.
We Have a Special Piercer for Infants
Our team includes a piercer who specializes in working with very young children. She is a former bedside nurse who brings a clinical background to the work. She also has a gentle, calming approach that helps both the baby and the parent stay relaxed throughout the appointment.
Babies respond to energy in the room. A calm, confident piercer makes a noticeable difference compared to someone who's tense or rushed. Our special piercer will talk softly through every step, move quickly when the moment comes, and help parents know what to do with their hands and their voice during the brief sting.

Our Head Piercer is APP-Certified
Our head piercer is APP-certified, which means she has met the standards set by the Association of Professional Piercers. The APP sets the highest bar for safety, technique, and anatomy training in the field.
Our head piercer has over 15 years of piercing experience. And, she has personally mentored every piercer on our team. She has also taught regional seminars on aseptic technique and ear anatomy.
Her standards shape every appointment that happens at Xtremities. Your baby's piercing is no exception.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is 9 months too late to pierce a baby's ears?
Not at all. Nine months is a common age for first piercings. Many parents wait until then or later because babies are stronger, their immune systems are more developed, and their lobes are slightly larger to work with.
Do babies feel pain during an ear piercing?
Yes, briefly. Babies feel a sharp pinch and often cry from the surprise. The actual piercing takes about a second per ear, and most babies settle within a minute or two once held close by a parent. Pain is short-lived.
Can a baby sleep on their side after an ear piercing?
It is best to avoid laying your baby on a freshly pierced ear during sleep. Back sleeping keeps pressure completely off the ears and gives the piercing the best chance to heal without complications.
How do you relieve ear piercing pain in babies?
A cold compress can reduce swelling and soothe pain around the piercing site. You can also discuss pain relief medication with your baby's doctor, if necessary. However, the pain is over relatively fast. You may not need to give any medication.
